Kaitlyn McGee began racing in 2001. While traveling home from a Junior Dragster race in Phoenix she said, “I can do that!”
On May 5, 2001, Kaitlyn entered her first race at the LACR track in Palmdale and scored a semi-final finish. Each week her driving improved and, by July, she went to the finals against what was arguably the toughest weekly group of racers in the country at Pomona.
|
Later in the year she had her first win at the NHRA 50th Anniversary event in San Diego and earned her first “Wally." To prove it wasn’t a fluke, she won the prestigious season-ending Kids-for-Kids event at Palmdale. In 2002, she continued winning and captured half the races at Pomona and became a perennial finalist at Rialto, San Diego and Palmdale which had become her favorite track.
|
In 2003, Kaitlyn stepped up to the 8.90 class and developed some new skills. Her biggest win of the year came at Bakersfield where she captured the “Del Cox” Classic. Her year was busy because, in addition to her racing schedule, she entered the Miss SCV Pageant and was crowned Little Miss Canyon Country.
In 2004, she captured the season ending Kids-for-Kids race for the second time at LACR. In 2005, competing in the 7.90 class, she was once again a finalist in the Del Cox Classic at Famosa.

In 2006, as a surprise birthday gift, Kaitlyn received a new “McGee Quad Cam” themed body for her junior dragster. With it, she went on to capture a huge Div 7 round at Barona against mostly older kids. To make her weekend a clean sweep, track officials voted her car “best appearing."

The following weekend she repeated with another win at Fontana and another “best appearing” trophy. For the rest of 2006, Kaitlyn scored a number of wins and found herself climbing up through the Division 7 points championship and regretted she had missed some of the early season rounds that would have put her in contention. She committed to a Championship run for 2007.

2007 was one of those years that racers dream about. Kaitlyn won races at LACR, Bakersfield, Tucson, Fontana and San Diego. By spring, she had locked up the Division 7 series and became the LACR track champion. She finished fifth at the Western Conference Finals and second in the SCEDA "Junior All Star" series. Kaitlyn was also a member of the Division 7 Champion Track Team and, to top it off, was voted O’Reilly “Racer of the Year” by her peers.
|
In 2008, Kaitlyn once again chased the Div 7 championship and was in contention until Labor Day. She won races at Fontana, Barona and Bakersfield driving her new Visions junior dragster. In addition, she became licensed to compete in the exciting new Junior Comp class and has raced it in both Junior Comp and big money Pro ET events against adults.
She recently displayed her new Visions Junior Comp car at the NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona and was part of a historic demonstration run in front of a large race day audience.
|
2009 is a busy year competing in two classes. Although her Junior Comp dragster is an exciting new challenge, Kaitlyn still has some major goals before the end of her Junior Dragster career.
She has won several Junior Dragster races and recently won the 2009 Junior Dragster "Race of Champions" at Fontana against the leading competitors representing most of the NHRA member tracks in the Pacific region.
|
In Junior Comp Kaitlyn appeared in nine straight final rounds and her wins at Bakersfield, Tucson, Sacramento and Fontana plus a runner-up at Barona enabled her to capture the Division 7 Junior Comp Title by mid summer. On free weekends she is also racing her Junior Comp dragster against adults in some of the larger Pro events.
